Productivity Hacks to Get Things Done.
A day has 24 hours. Out of these 24 hours the average person sleeps for 8 of them. That leaves only 16 hours for task to be completed. 16 hours may sound like a lot, but it’s not as easy as it sounds. Especially these days where the attention span of the average person is declining. It keeps getting harder and harder to focus and check those boxes off our to-do list. Luckily, there is hope with these 5 productivity hacks.
There are ways to deal with the problem. This article is going to give you 5 productivity hacks in order to make it easier to do what needs to get done in a more efficient way. We will knock those chores off your list and save you time doing so.
Hack One: Reminders.
Set alarms on your phone after a intervals. Set these alarms for multiple times throughout the day. Every time the alarm rings, ask yourself if you have done everything that you need to do within this time. If you did, good job! If not, then analyse what went wrong. I would also suggest having alarms ring frequently. Experiment and find the right interval for your work habits. Personally my phone rings every 30 minutes reminding me to be productive while also making me think of the previous 30 minutes to analyze how I could do better going forward.
Think of the constant reminders as your future self telling you to be productive instead of procrastinating. With the messages from your future self being sent all the time, I am positive you will complete more tasks throughout your day!
Hack Two: Accessibility.
Make what you need to do very accessible so that it becomes easy. For example, I have to write lyrics every day, therefore I place my notebook and pen right next to my bed, that way next morning I immediately grab it instead of wasting time. What can you do to make your tasks easier to accomplish?
The reverse is also true. Make the things that you don’t want to do harder. If you wish to spend less time on something distracting, move it away from you and put some distance between you and the distraction. This will make that thing more difficult to access. I tend to do this often with my phone.
These are just some examples, but they can be applied to everything. You want to go to the gym? Prepare your bag and running shoes the day before that. You want to take photos? Leave the camera next to bed for next morning.
When something is accessible, it is much easier to do it. When something is easy to do, you end up saving a lot of valuable willpower for other more difficult tasks where willpower is required.
Hack Three: Short Term Goals.
The third hack for productivity is to set a weekly goal and to make this goal a bit harder than what you do daily. For example, I have to write 10 pages of lyrics daily, once I implemented weekly goals, I tried to reach 100 pages per week. A total of 3 more pages per day. Due to the need to reach the goal, I pushed and was quite surprised by the results! This is my personal favorite of the 5 productivity hacks. I’m sure you will find it useful!
Hack Four: Momentum.
Once one task is done, the next task is sure to follow. Momentum works similar to firing up an engine inside a car, once fired up its easier to start. Whereas if the engine is shut down and it’s been sitting cold, it will take more effort to get going.
You can use momentum by doing easy tasks first to get you fired up. This way you get ready for the hard ones. Some examples include cleaning your room, throwing away the trash and doing the laundry. Its a powerful productivity hack in your toolkit.
Hack Five: Building Habits.
Imagine if you could do things without any willpower required! Habits do exactly that. After forming habits everything happens almost automatically. Willpower is only required until the habit gets built, after that it’s easy!
Building Habits requires doing something consistently for 21 days at around the same time every single day. For example, if I go to the gym at around 2-3 Am, after doing so for 21 days it’s going to become a habit. Habits also have something called a “cue”, a cue is when something correlated with the habit happens, it triggers your mind for what the next actions are. For example before going to the gym I put on my running shoes at the same spot. I do this because my brain knows it’s time to hit the gym. My cue is putting on my running shoes.
Final Thoughts on These Productivity Hacks.
Productivity is essential to everyone’s life, by using these productivity hacks, you decrease the time and willpower tasks require to be completed and help yourself not get caught in the trap or procrastination. I hope you found value in these productivity hacks, I wish you all the best!
