The Programming is Right In Front of You
The radio goes: “Beep.. Beep.. Beeeeeep. We Interrupt Your Regularly Scheduled Programming to….” Then later, the television starts flashing a warning with a message that says, “We Interrupt Your Regularly Scheduled Programming to….” The programming is right in front of us. They tell us. Yet we easily overlook it. Is it even possible to deprogram ourselves?
A lot of people say that our minds are like computers, but I think they got it backwards. Computers represent our minds. What do computer’s do? Computers take the data that you feed it, store it, and retrieve it at a later time. Our minds do the exact same thing. Our minds collect data, store it, and later use that data. You need to understand that this can be dangerous. Just as a virus can be downloaded onto a computer, corruption, bad habits, and a poor mindset can be downloaded onto our brains.
I am not referring to some fake virtual computer simulation that confuses reality. I am telling you that your brain will store all of the information that it receives. Also, I am telling you that everything you feed your mind becomes a part of you. Have you ever heard the phrase, “You are what you eat”? Same idea.
This is Not a New Idea
Here are a few powerful examples of the bible explaining this idea.
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23 (NIV)
“The eye is the lamp of the body. You draw light into your body through your eyes, and light shines out to the world through your eyes. So if your eye is well and shows you what is true, then your whole body will be filled with light. 23 But if your eye is clouded or evil, then your body will be filled with evil and dark clouds. And the darkness that takes over the body of a child of God who has gone astray—that is the deepest, darkest darkness there is.” Matthew 6:22-23 (NIV)
How Are People Being Programmed?
People are programmed by everything they see and hear. The programming is not all bad and it is not all good. Literally everything that we see and hear programs us in some way. Most of the time, we don’t even recognize that someone is programming us. To be clear, many people that make the programming do not even realize that they are programming people. Programming is just a way of life. We cannot functionally go around deaf and blind everywhere, so in turn we end up being programmed.
Dreams – A symptom of programming
Dreams are fascinating. They puzzle many people, but it’s not hard to understand them. Here’s a very brief explanation about how dreams work. Our brains, once we hit REM sleep, start retrieving data that is stored in our brains, however this data usually comes out jumbled. Our mind also uses this time to compartmentalize new information and it helps us store recent information into our minds. So what you get are a bunch of random and jumbled images mixed with images from your recent awaking hours. This can lead to some strange dreams.
A few years ago I started watching an action based TV show that had a lot of gore in it. I didn’t figure out the problem until later, but I started having a lot of violent and horrible dreams. It wasn’t until I realized that the dreams were connected to the show I was watching that I understood why I was having these horrible nightmares. I stopped watching the show and immediately, the nightmares stopped.
Your Programming Comes Down to This
Your programming comes down to this: What type of programming do you want inside of your mind? What kind of person do you want to be? What kind of values do you have? Guard your eyes and ears and don’t consume content that even shows something that you don’t want to become. Even if they are the bad guy, stay away from the content. Only consume content that shows you things that are consistent with your values, the life you want to live, and who you want to become. I cannot tell you what content to consume. No one can tell you what content to consume. Only you can determine who you want to be. I can only tell you that your content plays a major role in determining how you think and how you act. This is why the bible emphasizes focusing on God and purity so much.
When Does Our Programming Begin?
Humans start to become programmed almost immediately. Baby clothing, kids music, cartoons and everything play a role in programming us to believe certain things, act certain ways, and think specific things.
The programming never ends. Even into our adult lives, we are exposed to music, clothing, television, and everything else that programs children. However, adults are completely swamped with programming. We have newspapers, blogs, magazines, ads, signs, brochures, commercials, movies, friends, and so much more. Everywhere we look we are consuming something.
Your Consumption changes your interests
Some of you are undoubtedly going to say that you like the content you consume and that you don’t want to condemn yourself to a boring life. You’re going to say that it’s too hard. However, the facts remain the facts and the truth is that you don’t want to change. I’m not judging you, but this article may not be for you.
First off, let’s start by saying that interests do change over time. People can learn to develop new thoughts, feelings, interests, and desires. This widely accepted knowledge is not a new breakthrough scientific discovery or anything. So if you want to change the content you consume, you can actually do it.
To keep it PG we won’t stick to this topic long. When you change what you consume, your interests change. Studies have shown that fetishes develop based on what the person sees while experiencing pleasure. In fact, the more occurrences of this, the more interest is developed. This is to say that your interests can be augmented by pleasure. Almost everything that you sort of enjoy brings you a sense of pleasure, and you’ll learn to enjoy it more over time.
